A few months ago we told you that Xiaomi would add the LHDC audio codec to its 2019 and 2018 smartphones, well, the Xiaomi Mi 9 with the update of MIUI 12 It has received this improvement that will allow users to get all the juice out of the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 headphones.
The LHDC codec reached the Xiaomi market in September 2019, when the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G was presented, a smartphone that we did not see arriving in our market, and that was relegated to the Asian country. This codec allows the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 headphones and its 2S version to achieve a higher sound quality as well as lower latency.
In terms of high sound quality, LHDC Hi-Res can transmit high-resolution audio of up to 24-bit / 96 Khz through 900 Kbps, which is almost three times the traditional SBC (328 Kbps) Bluetooth audio codec. LHDC, after Sony’s LDAC, became the second high-quality Bluetooth standard certified by the Japan Music Association to reach Hi-Res Audio Wireless.
In terms of low latency, LHDC low latency mode provides a premium low latency Bluetooth audio experience for gaming applications. Traditional Bluetooth SBC encoding and decoding provides an audio and video delay that will generally reach 400 ms. After using the LHDC low latency solution, the minimum delay for Bluetooth audio can be reduced to 80ms, greatly improving audio and video sync in games or videos.
This basically will improve aspects in sound reproduction of the Xiaomi headphones. My AirDots Pro 2 that use this audio codec to improve the quality and synchronization between the headphones and the smartphone. This will mean that if users buy these headphones or future Xiaomi headphones that incorporate LHDC they can take full advantage of them in video playback and games with audio.
This improvement has been released in the Global ROM of the Xiaomi Mi 9 with the MIUI 12 version. The LHDC codec is expected to reach other Xiaomi smartphones such as: CC9 Pro, Mi Note 10, Redmi K30, Redmi K30 5G, Mi Mix 2S, Mi 8, Mi 8 Pro, Pocophone F1, Mi 8SE, Mi 8 Lite, Mi Max 3, Mi Mix 3, Redmi K20, Mi 9T, Redmi K20 Pro, Mi 9T Pro, Mi 9 SE, CC9, and Mi 9 Lite.
