How To Change The Font on Android

Typically, we want to modify our mobile as we please. Some time ago, this purpose was extremely complicated, since manufacturers did not provide us with simple tools to, for example, change the font in Android.

Over time the situation has changed a lot. We went from having to be root users on our Android mobile to make modifications to launchers, topics, and others, to have settings and applications that with a few simple clicks allow us to change all aspects of the interface of our mobile.

The reasons for changing the font of our mobile are several. Either for an aesthetic issue or for reasons of visual health, now you have this possibility. And to take advantage of this possibility, I am going to show you 5 options to carry out the change of the typeface or font of your mobile with Android.

And why do we do this? The reason is very simple: although there is a lot of information on the Internet about how to change the ROM, the launcher, and the themes of your mobile, there is not much information about how to change the font on Android, this being an important element that you can completely change the way the mobile interface looks.

The native way to change the font on Xiaomi and some other brands

Some manufacturers such as Samsung, Huawei, LG, and Xiaomi allow us to natively change the font of our mobile. For this reason, the first thing we are going to try, in case of having a mobile from any of these brands, is to make the changes from its own configuration.

In the case of brands Samsung, Huawei, or LGThese these include an option in the system settings – usually under the screen settings.

In a Samsung mobile specifically, this option is within the Screen> Fonts section, but in the Galaxy store, you can download more fonts to add them to your mobile.

It is also possible to change the font through the theme store. If the manufacturer offers a theme store to the user, when changing the theme, it will surely come with a font adapted for that particular theme.

Change the font on a Xiaomi mobile

Among the many options that MIUI gives us, we find that we can change the Xiaomi font. This option not only allows us to change the font but also the font color and size.

To do this, it is necessary to use any of the Asian regions, such as India, Hong Kong or any other similar region – it worked for me by placing India as a region.

  1. Go to Settings> Additional settings> Region.
  2. We select India or Hong Kong as the region.
  3. We go to the Themes application, where we will see a new option at the bottom. We played there.
  4. We download the font that we like from among the hundreds of fonts and then apply it.
  5. To finish, we will have to restart our mobile to make the new configuration effective. and voila! Our new font will now be working throughout the system.

It should be noted that this configuration, which allows us to change the different characteristics of the font, is only available for MIUI 9, MIUI 10, and MIUI 11, so if we have a Xiaomi Mi A2, Mi A2 Lite, Mi A1 or a Xiaomi Mi A3, we will not be able to follow this configuration.

How to return to the default MIUI font

In case you want to have the default font in MIUI again, just do the following:

  1. Go to Settings> Display> System font.
  2. The Themes application will open.
  3. Go to “My Sources”.
  4. Choose the default MIUI font, which in this case is “Roboto”.

Change only the font size on Xiaomi

If you have only a few vision problems, then you probably want to increase the font size just a bit. You can do this by going to Settings> Display> Font size.

Adapt the size of the text to the level you want to avoid having to make an extra effort when having to read the letters on the mobile screen.

I should point out that this process is similar for other manufacturers and mobile models, so feel free to look for these settings in case changing the text size is the only thing you need to do at the moment.

Change the font on Android: Now we will do it using a launcher!

Being something so simple, such as changing a typeface or font, we should be able to do it without too many setbacks and difficulties. However, this is not so.

Although many manufacturers, including Xiaomi, have simple ways to carry out these changes, there are many others that do not or do implement it, but the path to access these options is different. Therefore, we need something that applies to almost all mobiles and cases.

Another option is to install a launcher that allows us to change almost completely all the elements of our interface, to the point that we not only change the font and its size but everything else.

This is a very simple method and is compatible with almost any mobile model.

Install Lawnchair 2 to change the font

It may seem excessive to install a launcher to carry out this process, but if the previous methods do not work for you and you also want to change other aspects of the interface of your mobile, let’s get to work!

  • We download the launcher called Lawnchair 2 from the Play Store.
  • We grant the necessary permits.
  • We access the application drawer. To do this, we slide our finger and touch Lawnchair Settings.
  • We go to Theme> Fonts and select «Global Typography».
  • Click on change and we will have at our disposal a lot of fonts to choose from.

This launcher is very attractive and offers you a large number of settings to choose from. You can customize your mobile practically to your liking from this section of settings. Feel free to do it.

But if what you want is something simpler, then I offer you the option of installing an application specifically to change the font of your mobile.

Applications that allow us to change the font on Android

Another very interesting option, in case you don’t like the idea of installing a launcher completely to only change the font of your Android mobile, is to install an application that fulfills this sole purpose. Next, I’m going to show you some apps that are quite useful for this:

If you have found it difficult to change the font with the previous methods, with this app you can do it and install a large number of beautiful fonts that will give a new look to your mobile interface.

The application is quite easy to handle and for most brands does not require root access for its functionality. It has hundreds of styles of letters and is focused on beautifying your user interface.

It is compatible with a large number of brands:

  • Samsung.
  • Xiaomi (MIUI).
  • Meizu.
  • Huawei (Emotion UI).
  • HTC (root).
  • Sony (root).

This is an application that also has hundreds of fonts to personalize your mobile. Fonts of all styles: cute, dark, comic, galaxy, love, pink, sexy, colorful, clean, sweet and more.

It supports brands like Samsung (Galaxy S3, S4, S5, Note, Note Ⅱ, Note Ⅲ) and no root is needed to change the font on these mobiles.

It also supports other brands such as:

  • HTC.
  • Motorola.
  • Lenovo.
  • Huawei.
  • Nokia.

For these last brands, as with Hifont, you need root access.

Although it is not much to the case, it should be noted that this application promises not to collect any type of personal data from your mobile. In addition, you can install custom fonts through its font loader.

Although this application does not allow you to install fonts properly speaking, it has a keyboard with more than 50 different styles of letters that you can use for your conversations.

After installing and opening the app for the first time, you need to grant the app permissions to turn it into the phone keypad. From there, when you expand the keyboard in the app, FontBoard will be displayed.

Some of the FontBoard keyboard fonts are locked. This is because the app has a paid version that you must activate in order to enjoy these sources.

I hope that at this time you are already testing new sources on your mobile to adapt its entire interface to your liking. Tell us in comments what you think of this utility and what is mobile model to which you have changed the font. Also tell us which method did not work for you or which one you found most useful.
